The launching of the Dance Spirit in April, 2003, and its transformation into the beautiful, spacious 2,600 sq ft building suite with 1,200 sq ft dance floor in Cheyenne has been a longtime goal realized. Six years of extraordinary growth in level of activity at the studio is a testament to Mr. Urquidez' dedication to creating an atmosphere that provides a fertile training ground for dancers and a place for teachers/choreographers to present new and original works. His innovative curriculum embraces traditional and emerging styles, inspiring dancers to strive for both technical excellence and meaningful artistry.
About the Owner David Urquidez
Dave began dancing when he was just ten years old at home with his father and mother, who were acclaimed ballroom dance competitors and instructors. He continued training throughout his teen years, in Ballet, Ballroom, Latin, Jazz and Modern Dance until age 18. Following a brief sabbatical from dance to pursue his hobbies of roller/ice dancing, horseback riding/rodeo, sports and parachuting, Dave returned to the dance floor in 1983 as a competitive dancer and trained under the guidance of various world champions in Ballroom, Modern Dance, Country Western, West Coast Swing and Latin.
Today, dynamic energy and a passion for musical rhythms inspire Dave to choreograph and teach in an eclectic meld of Latin, Swing, Ballroom, Jazz and Country Western. Prior to the past 20 years as a professional dance instructor, Dave earned his Masters in Dance and Theater from Florida State University and is a proud recipient of 13 National Grand Championship titles. He has been called upon to teach all over the Untied States, South America, Spain, Germany, Mexico and Canada.
As a choreographer, Dave Urquidez is deeply in tune with both the adult and child perspectives, creating dance routines that capture students' enthusiasm, depth, humor and competitive spirit - whatever their age!
